Sue Gonda, born and raised near Detroit, Michigan, traveled to San Diego in 1981, where she worked as a secretary for over a decade while going to San Diego State University for her BA in history. She earned her doctorate at UCLA in American history specializing in women and legal history.
Since then she has taught full time at Grossmont College and part-time at SDSU’s Women’s Studies, teaching multi-cultural U.S. and women’s history. At Grossmont she created theU.S. women’s history courses, was chair of both the History and Cross-Cultural Studies Departments, chaired the College Curriculum Committee and was President of the Academic Senate.
She was President of the Women’s Museum of California (formerly Women’s History Reclamation Project) from 1998-2005, working with Board to obtain grants and museum status, permanent and travelling exhibits, school collaborations, and researched women in San Diego, made community presentations, and brought college interns into the museum.
